The seed for the Freshzest business started back in the late
1970s as one man’s 'passionate experimental hobby’.
Since then, with a commitment to setting the benchmarks on
quality and R&D, Robert Hayes hobby has been transformed
into Australia’s most expansive grower and producer
of fresh culinary herbs.
More than 15 herb varieties are currently branded under the Herbzest label. Products may
also be processed &/or packaged according to customer’s
requirements, eg Woolworths (a major customer since 1989).
With an integrated Quality Management System in place, Freshzest
uses every means available 365 days a year, to ensure its product range is on retailers’
shelves in less than 48 hours after
picking; to established premium standards, freshness, maximum
shelf life and piquancy.
Consistent with its industry leadership
role, managers are active members of the Australian
Hydroponic & Greenhouse Association and (founding members)
of the Australian Herb & Spice Industry Association.
This enterprise is no longer just one man’s experimental
passion but involves an expanding team of managers, horticulturalists, supervisors, administrators,
growers, harvesters, packers and sub-contractors. Expansion
includes new farms, with the first coming on-stream at Caniaba,
near Lismore in northern NSW, in February 2008.
This dynamic business is proof that passion
and business can mix with great success all round……
year round......365 days a year.
